Staying in central London can be expensive and stressful if driving. Premier Travel Inn in London is a cheap and easy alternative.

LOCATION

Kenton Road is in a pretty good location and the best thing you notice once you drive in is the large free car park. This was important for us as we didn’t really know the area and so needed somewhere safe to park. Nearby there are lots of shops where you can buy food and any essentials that you forget to pack! It is next to a Beefeater so getting food is not a problem. There is a tube station nearby which is also very convenient for getting to places.

THE HOTEL

Premier Lodge and Travel Inn have joined together to create the Premier Travel Inn. And they are the leading UK company when it comes to budget value hotels. If you need a cot in your room be sure to let them know when booking the room. This will save hassle once you get there. Breakfast buffet at the hotel costs £7.50 which is good if you can eat lots in the morning- but for us it wasn’t worth it as we woke up just minutes before check-out time. I like the fact there is seating in the lobby so if there’s a wait for the reception desk you can take a seat. They also have a snacks machine in the lobby which is good for late night munchies, when you feel too lazy to go out and buy something.

CHECKING IN

You can check in from 2.00pm. It is a simple procedure (the room was booked online), on arriving at the hotel you give them the name under which the booking was made. You will be given a simple form to fill in and will be asked to pay. Once you have paid you are given a card key and given the reception number in case you need anything. It only took ten minutes to check in and everything went smoothly, especially as the room was booked online.

THE ROOM

We booked a family room as there were five of us sharing a room. Now I’ve stayed at a Premier Travel Inn before- but always in a twin with a friend. I was surprised at how similar the rooms were to a twin. In fact the only difference is that with a family room you get a mattress on the floor. You get a double bed and a futon-style small bed (which didn’t open as we assumed it would- neither did the odd shaped cushions make another bed).

You also get a chair, a desk/table type thing, a mirror, a standard picture on the wall, mirror behind desk, bedside tables, bedside lamps, a very cheap open door style wardrobe (but the hangers were appreciated!), a Bible (I still think its weird that hotels provide this), a hairdryer, a television with some satellite channels, and a radio alarm. A nice touch is the kettle and tea/coffee making items you get. We also got a small pack of biscuits. You also get an ensuite bathroom, with extra toilet rolls and towels. I am pleased they got rid of the awful purple shower gel they did in those tiny bottles (they probably got stolen all the time). Now they have Lux shower gel attached to the wall. The shower is good quality, and the shower curtain stopped any overspray which is always good. You also get two extra pillows on top of the wardrobe which is a nice touch. I was pleased to note that high speed internet access is available by WiFi- but I didn’t test it out as I didn’t take a laptop.

One negative aspect about the room was the lighting- it really was inadequate. When putting on makeup in the actual room I ended up putting all the lights on. The beds were both in good shape, firm and clean. I would’ve appreciated some extra blankets as it got chilly in the night and one of the girls was sleeping on the floor, but apart from that it was fine. The décor is definitely on the budget side, so don’t expect anything chic or modern and you won’t be disappointed. However everything is clean which is important to me. You do have a thermostatic heater which is attached to the wall and was adequate for the mild weather. Check-out was fast (as I find it always is) and just involved returning the key.

FINAL VERDICT

The room is perfectly sufficient for a clubbing weekend stay, although I wouldn’t choose it for a romantic weekend with a partner. I love the card key as it fits easily into wallets and is easy to take out with you. I also think that the family room wasn’t adequate for five people to sleep in so be warned. One big negative for light sleepers is the noise from nearby trains. We didn’t really notice it as we crashed as soon as we got in from our night out. Overall I’d recommend this hotel if it is budget accommodation you want. It is a safe, clean place and pretty good service too- but the best thing about it is the location for what we wanted. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again if we split rooms or there were less of us travelling.

Travel reward credit cards are a great benefit only if you travel a lot. However, if you travel just once in a while, the benefit of such a reward credit card is offset by higher APR annual fees and other charges associated with the use of this type of credit card.

These kinds of reward credit cards may be specific to airline travel. There are also times when the rewards are entailed with just one particular airline. Still, the restrictions can be offset by additional perks, like discounts fees on auto rental, gas, hotel accommodations, or even purchases at retail shops. See to it that before you choose the best rewards credit card for travel, you should assess how you are going to make use of it. Also, opt for the best rewards credit card that offers the biggest savings you can most likely get from it.

]]>

Travel reward credit cards also offer cash advances that can be of great help when you are traveling. They also offer travel insurance in the occurrence of worldwide emergencies, which include medical evacuation, emergency expatriation, and lost luggage. These are extremely hard to resolve if you do not have enough pre-travel preparation and purchase of coverage.

A best rewards credit card for travel may also offer points or discounts for every retail purchase you make. Although, there are some travel reward credit cards do not offer discounts unless you are carrying over a balance at the end of the month. You should also consider the monetary value when choosing the best rewards credit card for travel.

It is also required that you know the value and schedule of the travel rewards that these credit cards offer. Say, for example, your cash rewards. You do not have to wait until the end of the year to get your money from these travel reward credit cards. Be sure that they send the cash to you every twenty dollars as the amount is accrued. Moreover, travel reward credit cards offer round trip flights to U.S. and Canada at the reward redemption value of a single round trip ticket for every 25,000 miles purchased with the card. And another important factor you should consider when choosing the best travel reward credit card is the charge for cash advances.

These are just the few factors you may consider when the best card for you. When you already have the best travel rewards credit card, see to it that you follow the terms associated with it.

Article by Sharronmoria

Helping those in need leads to an unexpected medical crisis for Charlotte, North Carolina residents, Jack and Shelley Boomhower, but their advanced preparation pays off. It’s good to be home in Charlotte, North Carolina, for Jack and Shelley Boomhower. Mr. and Ms. Boomhower were recently residing in a remote overseas location, as part of a mission trip with Wycliffe Associates. Wycliffe Associates has supported the worldwide efforts of Bible translation through dedicated service in numerous areas of ministry. Their Healthcare Incident During their missionary travels, Mr. Boomhower suffered an unexpected stroke in the middle of the night. Their team leader immediately contacted Seven Corners, the company the Boomhowers had purchased insurance with prior to leaving on their mission trip. Immediately upon receiving the call on March 7th, the Seven Corners After Hours Team immediately contacted their Assistance Medical Director, determined the closest facility that could provide proper care for a stroke, and arranged all the transportation and appointment to the facility. As the morning hours commenced, Seven Corners and their team overseas had determined the country that would have the most comprehensive and appropriate care available for Jack. Seven Corners had a pre-qualified hospital located in that country. Arrangements were then set in place to move Jack to the pre-qualified hospital via air ambulance transport. Seven Corners coordinated with this hospital via their coordinator who spoke the local language to arrange for immediate admittance upon arrival and provided all of Mr. Boomhower’s insurance information to the facility in advance of the arrival. The team leader, worked closely with Seven Corners which allowed Shelley to be with Jack at all times which was also very helpful in completing the paperwork and coordination of the care. Seven Corners explained all of the benefits of the insurance Shelley and Jack had purchased to the team leader. They arranged for payment to the local hospital with the team leader and detailed the medical evacuation benefit that allowed Shelley to travel with Jack to the pre-qualified hospital which included an accommodation benefit for her as well as the medical care benefits for Jack. There was also a benefit for travel back to their home town in the US to obtain further treatment and recovery once stabilized that Seven Corners staff wanted to make the team leader and the Boomhowers aware of. During the next weeks, Seven Corners and the hospital maintained frequent contact regarding Mr. Boomhower’s status and ensuring the hospital payment paperwork was handled appropriately. On March 26th, 19 days after the incident occurred, Seven Corners received information from the pre-qualified hospital that Jack was cleared for travel back to the United States. After confirmation by the Seven Corners Medical Director and the Neurologist on his fit for flight status, Seven Corners again worked with the team leader who passed the information on to Shelley. He was officially discharged on April 3rd and transported with Ms. Boomhower back to Charlotte, North Carolina where he is undergoing medical rehabilitation at the Charlotte Medical Center. The Boomers are grateful for all of the immediate attention that Jack was provided and feel fortunate to have had the support of so many people. “We believe it is important for people to be prepared if they are traveling overseas and are so thankful that we have taken that seriously when we have traveled.” stated Shelley. “And we are so appreciative for the excellent support of Seven Corners staff during such a trying time. How thankful we are that we had a responsible Insurance that we could rely on when we were out of the United States as well as when we transitioned to services in the US. Everyone has been so helpful through every step of the process. So often we think of dealing with insurances and cringe at the thought of the complicated paperwork and the small print but that has not been the case here. They made the paperwork painless for us, and there have not been any negative surprises which is such a blessing when I really want to focus my time and attention on getting Jack well again.”Their Journey Ahead The journey of recovery ahead will be a challenging chapter in the Boomhower’s life, and yet their good will and faith will guide them through strongly, and they will go on with their goals of spreading joy and hope throughout the world starting in their own community. Ms. Boomhower related that their family was not accustom to being the focus of so much attention but continues to express her gratitude for everyone’s consideration and prayers for the family. The entire family was so grateful for the personal attention they were all given by Seven Corners staff and said it was such a tremendous weight off their shoulders to work with a company that was so helpful during their time of crisis.

When you book in advance, you can be rewarded, yet it applies particularly to the adventure travel business. A win-win situation for both of you is an Early Bird Reward. In this way the adventure tour operators can reach the number of participants they are in need of in order to give the green light for the tour to take place and you can be discounted.

Actually you get one more really big advantage; by booking early you benefit from the widest selection of itineraries and departure dates.

Often you will find that by returning to book your next adventure tour with the same company – you qualify for a discount. Some Adventure Tour Operators advertise with a Loyalty Reward. By giving you a discount, when you book more than one time, they reward you for your loyalty.

Naturally you will get a discount if you are booking for a group, but be aware that often a group only has to consist of 6 or more people.

You could be booking a family adventure or Traveling with a bunch of friends and you would still be entitled to a group discount.

Finally you are not just rewarded for being in good time, booking-wise, but also for being late. Most adventure tour operators offer their unsold travels for reduced prices, when the start date approaches and here you can really do a deal.

I am not suggesting that you wait to book your ticket to the last minute – in which case you could very well be disappointed and find that your tour has been sold out. No I am merely suggesting that you always check out last minutes offer, just in case, when you are ready to book in advance anyway.

Then you can only be happily surprised, should you find your favorite tour reduced.

WAITSFIELD, VERMONT…

usually when they had their own families and attempted trips of their own. Resort Maps, creator of customized travel maps in more than 90 cities and towns across the U.S. and U.K. has some family travel tips that can help you optimize the pleasure of family trips and minimize the inconvenience.

“In a perfect world, every family trip goes smoothly and years later your memories center on where you went—Disneyworld or the Grand Canyon—rather than little Joey getting sick on the plane or on his sister in the car. But we all know the world is not perfect,” said Peter Hans, president of Resort Maps. “There are some things you can do to prepare for the mini ‘disasters’ that happen on your journey so they don’t impact the rest of your trip.”

Some of the areas to focus your pre-travel preparations include:

Attitude – expect a few snags and glitches both in packing and getting to and from your destination. By adopting a roll-with-the-punches approach, you really can keep the molehills from becoming mountains.

Drugs – there is never a drug store around when you need one. Keep this reality in mind when packing. Make sure to pack some travel size containers of cough syrup, cold or allergy medicines. Benadryl, in particular, is very helpful in getting sick children to rest comfortably on a flight or long car ride.

Baby wipes – even if the kids are out of diapers, wipes come in handy for a variety of quick clean ups.

Zip lock bags – make sure to carry a variety of sizes, which can have numerous uses. Oversized bags come in very handy for packing wet clothes.

Night lights – do not forget them, particularly if you’re sharing a hotel room. A bad night for one of your kids means no sleep for the entire family and that certainly can impact fun activities.

          ]]>

Scheduling – if you’re kids are younger, leave around the time they usually nap. This might buy you some extra quiet time for the drive. If flying, you may want to weigh the pros and cons of flying overnight. Sure, it will impact your zzz’s, but it may beat entertaining a pre-schooler for six hours on a daytime flight.

Flying – utilize resources like SeatGuru.com to strategize where you want to sit (e.g. windows, aisles, front of the plane or back). Maybe you want to split the kids up to minimize the possibility of bickering and fights.

Games, toys and other entertainment – ultimately, the key to traveling with children means keeping them occupied. Whether it’s playing their favorite DVD in the car, a deck of cards for the car or plane or finding some fun travel games (www.momsminivan.com has a list of 101 Car Travel Games and Road Trip Ideas for Kids), keeping your children entertained for as long as possible is the real difference maker in a good or bad trip.

“For many people, the memories of trips they took with their families last a lifetime. You’d be amazed at how a little bit of pre-planning, including having the right map of the town or city where you’ll be staying, can go a long way towards ensuring that the memories of your family trips center on the fun you had and the places and things you saw,” said Hans.

Resort Maps are colorful, hand-drawn maps of resort towns and cities. Free to area visitors, each map advertises restaurants, accommodations, retail stores, factory outlets, recreation and attractions, real estate and other local services. Each advertiser is represented with a display ad surrounding the map, including a color-coded grid locator and a building drawn, highlighted and labeled making it easy to locate. With landmarks prominently displayed, Resort Maps are an easy and fun way to find your way around town whether you are visiting, new to the area or you just want to know what’s happening around your town. And Kids love them so you can add Resort Maps to the list of things that will keep them entertained.

How do I estimate the budget for a travel or tour? Is simple enough, especially now with the internet, all the info easily be present in front of your computer.

To estimate the budget, we first have to divide the budget into three major criteria: Transportation, Accommodation, and Food. Please note that this is still beyond the cost of travel documents (such as passports, visas, etc.).

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation budget includes airfare and transportation in the city. Usually I find the entire transportation cost estimate in advance the following way:

1. First totalkan all transport ticket price (all the selected vehicle), can be checked via the Internet. No need to book directly, which is important to know the price first.

2. Then do not forget to look for info-info about transportation alternatives that might fall will be cheaper than a plane.

Example: Phuket-Krabi bus ticket = 155 baht, it was cheaper than Phuket-Krabi ferry ticket = 550 baht. Perhaps the arrival time will be longer, but all this back to the needs of each traveler. From here we can get the simulation costs with some alternative mode of transportation.

ACCOMMODATION1. First we collect the info from the internet, whichever is appropriate lodging our budget. For example I want to walk to Kuta, then I usually googling: “cheap lodging in Kuta” or “recommended hostels in Kuta”. Note that I use two kinds of languages, is to seek opinions of local tourists and foreign tourists.

2. Or the other way, looking through the website hostels online booking service providers, such as hostelworld.com, hostelbookers.com, and the like. Here we can choose a hostel to suit our needs. Then totalkan accommodation costs, adjusted for how many days we stayed.

FOOD

This includes food and drink for the road and snack-snack snacks alias. Budget meal should we specify. Usually I limit roughly Rp 50,000 a day includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.

But it also depends on which our country will go, better looking more info about the cost of daily living in the place we are headed. One example of the estimated cost of living in various countries could look at the “Budget Travel Costs of 94 Cities around the World” by Go Budget Travel.

TRAVEL DOCUMENTSAfter the three main budget we managed to get, now we have to find info about the cost of making the required documents (if we plan to go abroad).

After all the roads budget was recorded and counted in a rugged, exaggerating about 30 percent for the reserve fund. This is important.

Article by Dave Knapp

Whether it began as a scientific experiment or an intriguing sociological test, Biosphere 2 is an impressive world-renowned structure. The 3.5-acre facility, located in Oracle, AZ just north of Tucson, was originally built to serve as an artificial ecological system, but has become an ideal attraction for student group travelers with an avid interest in technology and science.

Constructed from 1987-1991 by Space Biosphere Ventures, the original biosphere was designed to test if and how people could live and work in a closed structure. It was the ultimate experiment under glass to explore the complex web of interactions within life systems. Today, Biosphere 2 is operated by the University of Arizona, which uses the site as a laboratory to study climate change. Original Biosphere financier Edward Bass gave the university an additional million to preserve and maintain the site.

With a size comparable to two and a half football fields, Biosphere 2 is the largest closed system ever created. The sealed nature of the structure allows scientists to monitor the ever-changing chemistry of the air, water, and soil within. The structure is comprised of mangrove wetlands, savannah grassland, desert, agricultural system, living quarters, and a 1 million-gallon ocean.

Since 2006, the structure has no longer been maintained in an airtight state and its accessibility to the outside world has been expanded with the “World of Discovery Under the Glass” Tour. For the first time since its construction, student group travelers can now explore the entire Biosphere 2 on a fully guided tour along a newly built trail system which traverses most of the structures wilderness ecosystems.

Group tours begin in the human habitat where students can see one of the apartments that the original inhabitants of the biosphere lived in, the farm where they grew their crops, and the kitchen where their meals were prepared. Also on view is the command-and-control room, where scientist’s monitored data collected by hundreds of sensors.

Located within the habitat is “Climate Change and Life on Earth,” an exhibit that examines past climate changes on earth, greenhouse warming, the causes of its impact on humans, and the choices people will have to make to manage the planet.

The tour then continues through the airlock door into the wilderness area. The first environment student’s encounter is the tropical savanna. The trail system then travels along a 40-foot ocean cliff for a dramatic look above the ocean. Moving along the trail, students descend into the lower savanna and the lush mangrove through the tropical thron scrub, and into the coastal fog desert.

The techno sphere gives touring groups a view of all of the mechanical systems that make it possible to control the environments of the Biosphere. Inside, students can descend through a tunnel into one of the Biosphere’s two lungs. These large geodesic domes originally prevented the massive structure from exploding or imploding its airtight state. Essentially, the lungs allowed the Biosphere to grow larger during the day when it was warmer, and shrink due to cooler air during the night. The tour then moves to the underwater ocean viewing gallery exhibit before concluding at the stating point on the hill overlooking the biomes.

Self-guided tours of the exterior of the Biosphere 2 are also available. They begin with an orientation movie and then the visitors see the human habitat, climate change exhibit, and ocean viewing gallery.
